The Birth of Support Local Now:
Growing up on my family’s farm on the Big Island of Hawaii, I learned first hand the benefits of coming together to be self-sufficient as a family, as a community and as an Island. How the support of each element in our community was critical in our ability to provide products to the people, locally.
In contrast, I also understand what happens when larger corporations, move into areas and put smaller businesses out of business, or when companies are forced to sell to large corporations simply because you have no other choice, and the negative consequences of doing so for both the business and consumers. It doesn't need to be about Big business against Small business. There is a way to connect the community with an understanding of both.
As a local Encinitas resident for the last 10+ years, and an avid supporter of our very cool local businesses, I am passionate about bringing attention to the benefits of supporting local businesses and the people who run them. As we become more educated and ask more questions, you will realize that you have more choices than you think about what you buy, and where it comes from, and where you can buy it. This organization is not only a forum to educate you on your choices, but also to provide a voice for local businesses and the people who support them.
